The AfricaAmericaExchange is a project of the partnership between JRMD/YRWD and The Heritage Institute to bring peace to Burundi, the Great lakes Region of Central Africa and the world. This involves students in America learning about the situation in Africa and raising funds to help refugees rebuild their homes and to help schools provide for needed texts and other educational materials. African and American students engage in inter-cultural dialogue via either email or letter correspondence, often focused on themes/questions which relate to curricular requirements.

Jeunesse en Reconstruction du Monde en Destruction (JRMD)/ Youth in Reconstruction of the World in Destruction (YRWD) is a Non-Governmental Organization, founded in 1994, seeking to help reconciliation and peace through rebuilding homes and traumatized hearts which were caused by the effect of ethnic wars, injustice and divisions.

The Heritage Institute (THI) for over 25 years has been a leader in progressive continuing education programs for K-12 educators. Beginning in 1977 with a handful of field studies on the natural history of Washington state, our program has grown to include courses in most subject areas and teaching methodologies across the K-12 curriculum. Our philosophy of Educating for Humanity provides the framework and inspiration for our leading edge perspective on teaching and learning and for our vision of schools as enriching and productive learning environments for all children. Our goal is to renew teachers with learning experiences that empower them to inspire children with the joy of learning and a care for the whole community of life.
